Following the decision to castrate 17-year-old multiple graded stakes winner and Eclipse Award 2002 Champion 3 Year Old Colt War Emblem, Michael Blowen of Old Friends Kentucky released a statement explaining the reason the older champion was gelded. The gold rush is on as top riders seek OTTBs
Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) released today a list of 480 trainers from 45 states, three Canadian Provinces and England who will acquire and train a recently retired racehorse for the $100,000 Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, scheduled for October 27-30 at the Kentucky Horse Park. All ten of the discipline winners from last year’s Makeover will return to defend their titles, along with seventy-three other Makeover alumni on brand new horses. Penny Chenery’s t’bred to help fete Secretariat
Doswell, Va.—Secretariat’s great-great granddaughter, Groundshaker, will be coming to her ancestral home as the star attraction of the annual Secretariat Birthday Celebration at The Meadow April 1-3. The celebration is a major highlight of the Virginia Horse Festival, which attracts thousands of horse lovers from all over the Mid-Atlantic. Efforts are underway to eventually welcome the retired racehorse as a permanent resident at the historic birthplace of the Triple Crown champion.
