The First Annual Celebrity Fundraiser for Remember Me Rescue kicks off April 26 with a gala ball, celebrity speakers, and an auction of exciting prizes, and concludes April 27 with a dramatic demonstration by ex-racehorses who are retrained and ready for their new home.

The fundraiser begins Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Lone Star Park’s Alysheba Room, where guests will be invited to enjoy a buffet dinner and open bar before hearing from celebrity speakers, and bidding on items such as a guitar signed by American Texas country artist Pat Green and others, and also a saddle signed by famous jockeys Julie Krone, Gary Stevens, Lafite Pincay, Chris McCarron.

Well-known horseman Maggi Moss, who has offered financial assistance to the Texas horse rescue, will keynote the event, which will be attended by Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone.

Hall of Fame Trainer Jack Van Berg will serve as auctioneer on exciting items, raising funds for Thoroughbreds in the care of Donna Keen, founder of Remember Me Rescue:

In addition to the autographed saddle and guitar, a violin autographed by Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel will also be bid on, as well as a one-week stay at a Florida beachfront condo, and much more.

Tickets are $95 each, and $700 for a table, and are available for purchase via Remember Me Rescue’s website.

Festivities continue into Saturday, when 10 re-trained off-track Thoroughbreds demonstrate their skills before an audience of prospective adopters.

Ten ex-racehorse Thoroughbreds who have undergone retraining under Remember Me Rescue’s oversight will compete in a show dubbed Battle of X’s, scoring points for their precision over fences or in the ring, and with any luck, scoring even bigger points with prospective adopters.

Horses who will be available for new homes are:

  • Lady Charlie’s Boy, 13-year-old bay gelding
  • Conquer’s Luge, nine-year-old bay roan gelding
  • Sky Driver, four-year-old bay gelding
  • Western Escape, eight-year-old bay gelding
  • Rutherford, five-year-old bay gelding
  • Big Enchilada, nine-year-old bay gelding
  • Canuki, five-year-old bay gelding
  • Aprizeindeed, six-year-old bay mare
  • Future Covenant, six-year-old chestnut gelding
  • Cactus Café, eight-year-old dark brown mare.

Event and rescue founder Donna Keen says the show will offer an exciting way to showcase the Thoroughbred talents, and help them find homes.

“This event will give people who have been looking for a Thoroughbred the opportunity to see them retrained for another discipline, she says. “These horses have been retraining since November.”

My off-track TB mare is 20 yrs old and still going strong. She rides in a bosal and can ranch rope and mounted shoot. Good luck with your fundraiser and your mission.

We are so excited about this event. Thank you, Susan for letting everyone know about our event. Immediately after the Battle of the X’s the 10 Challenge horses will be auctioned to benefit Remember Me Rescue. Bidders will need to be approved for adoption and can fill out paperwork on Saturday at the show.
