Doswell, Va.—Secretariat’s great-great granddaughter, Groundshaker, will be coming to her ancestral home as the star attraction of the annual Secretariat Birthday Celebration at The Meadow April 1-3. The celebration is a major highlight of the Virginia Horse Festival, which attracts thousands of horse lovers from all over the Mid-Atlantic. Efforts are underway to eventually welcome the retired racehorse as a permanent resident at the historic birthplace of the Triple Crown champion. Nearly 500 trainers apply to TB Makeover show

The Retired Racehorse Project announced today the results of a four-week effort to recruit experienced horse trainers for the 2016 Thoroughbred Makeover. The event requires each trainer to acquire a Thoroughbred that raced or had a published work after October 1, 2014 and had no second career training before this year. Trainers will ship to the Kentucky Horse Park on the last weekend of October to compete in ten equestrian disciplines for $100,000 in prize money and the title of America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred. Fasig-Tipton gives $50K to rebuild at Old Friends

GEORGETOWN, KY – Old Friends founder and President Michael Blowen announced today that Fasig-Tipton, through its subsidiary Blue Horse Charities, has donated $50,000 toward the cost of rebuilding a barn destroyed in a fast-moving fire. The horse charity’s “hospital barn” burned to the ground last weekend after the roof caught fire. Two horses, Alphabet Soup and Archie’s Echo, were evacuated minutes before the structure became fully engulfed. No horses or people were injured in the blaze.
