Penny Chenery’s t’bred to help fete Secretariat
Doswell, Va.—Secretariat’s great-great granddaughter, Groundshaker, will be coming to her ancestral home as the star attraction of the annual Secretariat Birthday Celebration at The Meadow April 1-3. The celebration is a major highlight of the Virginia Horse Festival, which attracts thousands of horse lovers from all over the Mid-Atlantic. Efforts are underway to eventually welcome the retired racehorse as a permanent resident at the historic birthplace of the Triple Crown champion. $750 horse steaming toward Rolex after blip
The $750 Thoroughbred who made it all the way to Rolex last year before being pulled back from competition is steaming back, better than before. AP Prime is outperforming himself and looking better than ever following months of rest, slow rehab, and a diet change, says owner/rider Leah Lang-Gluscic. Rescue mare gives birth to first foal, full circle
A Thoroughbred mare rescued two years ago from a squalid farm in South Florida, where she nearly died of starvation, gave birth last month to her first foal. Silver and Smoke, an OTTB mare saved by the South Florida SPCA and the Miami-Dade police from a ragtag facility in Miami Gardens, Fla., and subsequently taken back by her original breeder Danzel Brendemuehl, gave birth Jan. 19 to a bay filly sired by graded stakes winner Majesticperfection. “She foaled very easily, very professionally, and accepted her foal right away,” Brendemuehl says. “It was wonderful.
