The gold rush is on as top riders seek OTTBs

Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) released today a list of 480 trainers from 45 states, three Canadian Provinces and England who will acquire and train a recently retired racehorse for the $100,000 Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, scheduled for October 27-30 at the Kentucky Horse Park. All ten of the discipline winners from last year’s Makeover will return to defend their titles, along with seventy-three other Makeover alumni on brand new horses. A chance meeting between a woman who didn’t want another horse and a Thoroughbred who looked a lot like her old favorite has brought a little magic—plus two championships and a reserve championship—to the unlikely pair. Woman, 73, opens farm to ex-cons; 2nd chance

A 73-year-old Virginia woman who boasts a connection to Kentucky Derby winner Day Star, is doing something absolutely stellar with her modest horse farm.
