Blue Blue Sea passes on

Blue Blue Sea and Miranda Prather

Blue Blue Sea, a 14-year-old gelding who battled and survived many health problems during these past several years has passed away in his barn.

Blue’s devoted owner Miranda Prather announced Blue’s death on Feb. 9, stating she had received a call from the barn that her pretty chestnut had died overnight.

The pair had weathered many storms together, including a bad bout with colic in 2006 that nearly claimed his life. (See related story).

Time and again, Blue proved himself a fighter, and he always bounced back.

The irony, Prather says, is that Blue was in good weight at the time of his unexpected death, and was frisky and upbeat.

“He pranced as I brought him in and shook his head side-to-side like he was saying ain’t I just the best?” Prather states on her Facebook fan page for Blue Blue Sea.

She continues, “When I got to the barn, he was very much Blue … I fed him a small dinner which, he cleaned up, and gave him many mints.

“I never would have left if I felt he was in any kind of bad way, and I would have called the vet out immediately if I felt that was needed. When I left Blue, he was bright, alert and looking for the next mint. Nothing seemed amiss.”

If there’s any consolation in the tragic loss of her friend, it is that it appears Blue went “quickly;” and, she suspects it may have been a heart attack or possibly an aneurism.

Prather credits her redheaded friend for opening her up to friendships she might not have made otherwise. And for the many Facebook friends and fans who have followed Blue’s progress, she will maintain his page Blue Blue Sea.

“By introducing Blue to the world through his page, I’ve come to know some wonderful individuals, even if I’ve never met you in person. Thank you for caring about Blue and I and for being “here” with me on this most difficult of days.”

    Miranda,Susan,

Bless you for all you do for these beautiful sentient beings who share our lives. Blue Blue Sea will be with you, always.

    Somewhere in time’s own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
    Where creeks sing on
    And tall tree grow
    Some paradise where horses go
For by the love that guides this pen
I know great horses live again.
