Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital released the following press release on Rachel Alexandra’s ongoing recovery from foaling complications: Veterinarians at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY remain pleased with Rachel Alexandra’s progress following abdominal surgery resulting from foaling complications in mid-February. Dr. Brett Woodie, who performed the surgery, calls her recovery “better than expected.” As updated over the weekend, Rachel’s appetite was good enough that she was taken off IV fluids and nutrition on Saturday. Update Story: Lazaria, a mare once so sick she seemed near death, is a children’s hunter/jumper. Once a bag of bones with a slim shot of surviving the infection that wracked her body, Lazaria regained her health, and a footing on the Texas hunter/jumper circuit, under the care of Lone Star State equestrian Margaret Kennedy. Just after the New Year, a Philadelphia horseman climbed into the driver’s seat of his powerful rig and went in search of at-risk horses in need of a ride to safety, and in doing so, began a personal quest to “do good” in life.
