New Vocations Racehorse Adoption reports that its annual Christmas sale resulted in 41 ex-racehorse Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds finding new homes.

“The promotion was a huge success,” says Anna Ford, program director for the Thoroughbred & Adoption Office. “There are still too many retired racehorses not getting the chance to excel in a second career after they leave the track.”

The following horses found new homes:

Thoroughbreds—Thunder Dancing, Roving, Bomber, Baroness Kayah, Fluid Grace, Technique, Goodstone, Crypto Aero, Memorized, Rodin, Majestic Tiger, Remand, Cat in the Bag, Satin Kddin,Smartacus, French Cotton, Are You Serious, Quarry Tremor, Lei Nani, Jacinth, Rae of Sun, Carli Rose, Daybreak Dancer, Joe Vann, Brother Terry, Bandon Dunes, Sky Tiger, Wicklow County.

Standardbreds —Linn Side Louie, Can Do It, Chaviere, Little Peanut, All About Me, Ira’s Sunny Boy, Freedom Hall, Striking Style, Inglorious Custard, BJ’s Erica, Lucy Needs Cash, Bedswerver, Flanders Moll.

Ford notes that New Vocations has been obligated in recent years to take in and care for an increasing number of horses, while still providing the same quality care and service as they have in the past.

Challenging as the times may be, events such as the Christmas promotion, offering a half-off adoption fee, is a boon to the organization and its horses.

“We are so blessed to have an amazing team that works extremely hard and always strives to do more,” she says. “They seek nothing more than to find each horse the best home.

“At the end of the day, it’s always about the horses. We look forward to expanding our efforts in 2013.”

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption was founded in 1992 to offer retiring racehorses a safe-haven, rehabilitation, and continued education through placement in experienced, caring homes, according to biographical information on its website.

Although many horses arrive at New Vocations with some type of injury from racing, with care and retraining, they often transition into wonderful riding prospects, according to the New Vocations website.

Close to 4,000 retired Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds have been placed in qualified homes through New Vocations’ efforts since its inception, including 429 ex-racehorses that were placed in 2011.

New VOcations – God Bless You for all you’ve done and will do in the future for helping these racehorses find new loving homes. I wish I had the funds and the home to get some of them. I have three horses I’ve saved, and hope to get two more that have waited to come to me, after being left to starve in a pasture. Since my three horses are at a sanctuary that has seen a very hard time the last two years, I have held off bringing two more down until we can get things in a better situation at the sanctuary. THis sanctuary has the grandson of SEattle Slew and he is a sweetie. I wish the owner could see donations that would enable her to bring more horses to the sanctuary – either ex racehorses or domestic horses that could be sent to slaughter. Unfortunately, at this time funds prohibit either happening. May God extend his hands over New Vocations and you are able to expand to save many, many more. God Bless all of you and your employees and volunteers and God BLess all your charges that they will enjoy the rest of their lives in good, loving homes.
