Blinded painting horse is better; paints again

Metro Meteor, the famous painting horse stricken by sudden-onset blindness last week, is getting better, according to the OTTB’s owner. Ron Krajewski announced on Facebook that Metro’s vision had improved well enough for the Thoroughbred to begin to return to his regular routine over the Christmas weekend. Wearing eye protection googles to protect against scratches—one of his meds could cause permanent blindness if his eyes sustained damage, Metro was turned out in his fenced dirt paddock on Christmas Eve, and by Dec. 26, Krajewski reported the once-terrified, blinded Thoroughbred appeared “back to his old, happy self” that morning. Girl gets broodmare out of kill pen; ‘I promised’

A lumpy-legged Thoroughbred broodmare escaped death in a Canadian slaughterhouse last summer after a young girl, who had befriended the animal in her last hours, pleaded with adults to spare her. Southern States, Tampa Bay Downs help OTTBs

Southern States donates to TRF For the third consecutive year, OTTBs at the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) in James River were the recipients of a generous donations from Southern States feed store in Midlothian, Va. Customers of the store purchased myriad items for the horses when they did their shopping this season, doubling the amount donated to the TRF this year, says Olivia Croxton, equine specialist at the feed supply store.
