Weekend Suffolk Showcase to be robust event

Approximately 70 retiring racehorses will be paraded before the horse-buying public Oct. 20 during CANTER New England’s 8th annual Suffolk Showcase. The rehoming organization’s signature event, which strives to find suitable, caring and lifelong homes for retiring racehorses, begins at 9 a.m. on the backside of Boston’s venerable racetrack. Horses will parade along a path adjacent to Receiving Barn A, as Suffolk Downs’ racing analyst and publicist Jessica Paquette offers commentary and introductions. After brilliant 4th Level test, OTTB aims for silver

Bring on the silver! After conquering their first go at 4th Level Dressage at The Garden State Classic last weekend, with a dazzling display of high-scoring pirouettes and lead changes, Sue Gallagher and her off-track Thoroughbred Kaytee Mountain are gearing up to climb even higher. The duo will practice hard this winter and in the springtime start pointing toward another 4th Level Dressage test, followed by two Prix St. George tests, and hopefully will be well on their way to earning enough points in the USDF ranking system to earn a silver medal. On a flea-bitten gray who once looked old beyond his years rides a fearless young girl who is talented beyond hers. Facing much younger horses with much older riders, 15-year-old Madeline Parisan and her 18-year-old Thoroughbred Hope to Star clinched a hard-won second place ribbon at Plantation Field International Sept. 20.
