(Press Release) Rockville, Md.— CANTER Mid-Atlantic launched a Winter Hay and Holiday Card Drive this week to raise $4,500 to insure resources are available to maintain its much-needed winter hay supply.
During this holiday season of giving, the certified nonprofit asks for consideration as the organization continues to do its work providing a safety net for horses at the end of their racing careers.
An OTTB moving from track life to a post-racing career starts gently, getting time off to “be a horse” at one of the CANTER Mid-Atlantic farms.

“We believe that the slow way is the best way to find the best home and rider match for a horse,” said CANTER Mid-Atlantic Executive Director, Allie Conrad, “We work very hard to ensure that all of our horses receive any and all of the attention that they need. Doing this is very expensive for the organization, but we feel it is the primary mission of CANTER. To do any less would not honor our mission, nor would it honor the deserving horses we help.”
CANTER Mid-Atlantic is asking those supporters who are able to please donate (a bale of hay costs $8) to the Winter Hay and Holiday Card Drive. Donations will help CANTER Mid-Atlantic continue taking in needy thoroughbreds for rehabilitation, retraining and eventually, a new home.
There are currently 30 horses in the program.
