The harder the audience clapped, the higher he stepped. Lofting his exceptionally long legs so high that each step seemed more animated, more look at me, than the one before, he danced with all his heart to a movie soundtrack from Secretariat. And Sea Lord was great that day. Not as a racehorse, he never raced. Bullybullybully, a racehorse who gained a minor celebrity following while starring in Animal Planet’s television series Jockeys, is auditioning for a new job, and a new life. In May, Bully’s career went flat. He finished dead last, coming in 40 lengths off the pace in a claimer at Mountaineer, says Diana Baker, a Thoroughbred advocate and board member of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. In a fitting end to a storybook tale, a gray filly plucked from certain death in late November has been restored to health, and recently turned over to the loving protection of an equestrian who vows to love and care for her until the end of her days.
