Press Release—In a twist of fate, men at the Blackburn Correctional Facility in TRF’s Second Chances program who may have awoken on June 28th, 2016 questioning their own self worth, were entrusted with a life or death mission – to nurse to health six starved horses who were deemed the worst cases at the Mercer County, Ky. farm where 43 horses were seized. $100K OTTB makeover project gains key sponsor

The Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) and Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) jointly announced last week that TCA will be the title sponsor of the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, which will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky. on October 27-30. The TCA Thoroughbred Makeover features 478 trainers from across North America who are working throughout the year to prepare recently retired Thoroughbred racehorses to compete for more than $100,000 in ten equestrian disciplines. “The Thoroughbred Makeover is an important part of aftercare as it works to create a demand for Thoroughbreds in various disciplines,” said TCA president elect Michael McMahon. “With a demand and market […]

Stakes horse Delay of Game dies at Old Friends

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Graded-stakes winner Delay of Game has died. The 23-year-old gelded son of Summer Squall was euthanized on the evening of June 6 due to the infirmities of old age. The horse also suffered from the neurological disease EPM. Delay had been pensioned at Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Georgetown, KY, since 2010. Michael Blowen, founder and president of Old Friends, made the announcement of his passing this morning. Owned by John H.
